Custom Painted Table

Small Table - After

Custom Painted Table Re-Do

I was out of town for about a month but took some small projects with me to work on.  Before I could start any of those though, I found this little table in the corner of my moms front porch.  It had been custom painted before apparently and I had to immediately primer it before my brain melted from the black, gold, green, and purple paints slathered all over it. It almost made my head explode.  So, the below pic is the “After Primering” pic…I apologize for not showing you the “real” before pic, but trust me, it was scary bad.  No idea what they were thinking, and I’m quite sure I don’t want to know.

I hope this is MUCH easier to look at.  This is the “After” pic.  I painted it in a nice gloss white and used painters tape to add some turquoise stripes across the top.  The front drawers and the smaller rectangles beside the drawers were scrap book papered with mod podge.  I also redid the frames that are sitting on top of the table.  The rectangular one was painted the same turquoise and I added mod podged scrap book paper instead of a photograph.  The oval frame was a Salvation Army find that was painted the same turquoise before I added sugar skull fabric atop cork board to use as a pin board near my desk.

Custom Painted Small Table - After

Mom loved this custom painted table in her living room as a side table to the sofa but since then I have redone a vintage credenza for her so I am thinking that my niece that loved this piece so much might be getting it.  Its definitely perfect for a little girly-girls room!

Vintage furniture can instantly add style to any home decor.  I fell in love with the idea a couple years ago when I was trying to come up with ideas for a piece of furniture that would add a focal point in the dining room.  I loved the designs from the past but wanted a bold, modern color for the “wow” factor.  I wasn’t exactly sure how this was going to work out, so I initially started out experimenting on pieces that I found from garage sales, thrift stores, or even along the road.  I still can’t believe some of the things we have found that were on their way to the dump.  For example, this hutch was rescued from the road side.

She was beat up and scratched and pretty sad looking, but we brought her home, cleaned her up, painted her a nice grey before glazing.  This is what she ended up looking like:

Can you believe someone was throwing that away?!

Mid century credenza – BEFORE

This piece was found at our local Salvation Army and I used her for quite a while  in our own living room.  BUT!   I massively lucked out one day and found the 6 drawer, 2 door Kent Coffey Perspecta credenza with the matching side table.   You would absolutely lose your minds if I told you how much I paid for the pair.  So, I kept the Kent Coffey (no painting that one!) and re-did this one for our mother.  She still has this well very made and sturdy piece going on 10 years I believe.  I know…I shouldn’t have painted it.  I apologize and blame it on my naivete.

The credenza was done in an ebony stain along with a periwinkle blue paint.
